You'll Float, Too! The First "IT" Trailer Has Arrived!
While it's gotten a tamed down (albeit, good) made-for-TV mini-series, Stephen King's classic novel IT has never gotten the big screen treatment. But this September, that all changes and this week we got our first trailer!
The trailer gives us our first glimpses of The Losers Club, It in action, and Derry. And while it doesn't contain much information overall (it's just a teaser, after all), it does give us an idea of the tone and a little bit of an idea of how The Losers are going to be. There isn't too much involving It, either, just a few jump scares. A friend of mine is concerned by this trailer that all it will be is "SCARY CLOWN! BOO!" but I told him that this is only a teaser trailer and when people think of IT all they think of "SCARY CLOWN! BOO!" so it's a perfect marketing scheme. There is absolutely no way to contain the true horror of IT in a teaser. Heck, there is no way to contain the horror of IT into one whole movie since this will be two! Because the true horror of IT is much more intellectual and multi-layered. The true horror of IT is the horror of losing childhood innocence, the horror of growing old, the horror of growing apart from people you cared about, the horror of abuse of children, the horror of abuse of spouses, the horror of racism, and the strange sort of horror that comes along with small town living. It's my hope that all these things will be captured over the course of two movies even if they can't be captured in a quick teaser trailer.
New Line Cinema's IT, directed by Andres Muschietti and starring Bill Skarsgard, Jaeden Lieberher, Jeremy Ray Taylor, Sophia Lillis, Finn Wolfhard, Wyatt Oleff, Chosen Jacobs, Jack Dylan and Nicholas Hamilton hits theaters September 8th.
