Female Thor

Marvel to Debut Thor Series With Female Thor

By: Dave Clark

It was announced this morning that in October, Marvel Comics will debut a new Thor series with a female God of Thunder. The following statement was released by Marvel:

The inscription on Thor’s hammer reads ‘Whosoever holds this hammer, if HE be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor.’ Well it’s time to update that inscription. The new Thor continues Marvel’s proud tradition of strong female characters like Captain Marvel, Storm, Black Widow and more. And this new Thor isn’t a temporary female substitute – she’s now the one and only Thor, and she is worthy!
— Marvel Editor Wil Moss

The series will be written by Jason Aaron and the artwork will be done by Russell Dauterman.

This is not She-Thor. This is not Lady Thor. This is not Thorita. This is THOR. This is the THOR of the Marvel Universe. But it’s unlike any Thor we’ve ever seen before.
— Writer Jason Aaron

I'm usually open-minded about a lot of the changes that get made with comic characters and movie characters and the like. This seems like a huge move and I'm not sure how well it's going to work out for Marvel. They are trying something different, I suppose and we'll see how it all shakes out. I hope they don't just decide to retcon it within the next five years though.

How do you guys feel about this HUGE change to a major player in the Marvel Universe? Do you think this is in some way a response to the "holy trinity" in the Justice League making Marvel's own trinity with Cap, Iron Man, and Thor? What does this mean for the film universe?
