RDJ to Join Cap 3

Robert Downey Jr. Set To Join 'Captain America 3'

By: Dave Clark

Earlier today Marvel announced a large Civil War event to take place in the Marvel Comic Book Universe in 2015, now Variety is reporting that we'll see some Civil War action taking place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as well. Robert Downey Jr. is in talks to join Chris Evans in 'Captain America 3' which will be directed by the Russo Brothers and is set for a May 6th 2016 release. The third film in the Cap series is set to follow 'Avengers: Age of Ultron' (May 1st 2015) and 'Ant-Man' (July 17th 2015.) Variety reported a bit about the plot for Cap 3 as well, taking from the Civil War crossover event from a few years ago:

...the plot will pit Stark against Captain America’s alter-ego Steve Rogers, played by Chris Evans, as they feud over the Superhero Registration Act, which forces anyone with superhuman abilities to reveal their identities to the U.S. government and agree to act as a police force for the authorities.

Stark supports the program, but Rogers does not, saying it threatens civil liberties, causing sides to be taken and Rogers, among others, to go on the run to avoid arrest. The moral question and battle with his Avengers teammate essentially makes Stark a villain of sorts in ‘Captain America 3,’ providing Downey with a meaty role he could play out into future Marvel films, including a fourth ‘Avengers.’

How all this will play into the events of the previous Marvel phases is yet to be determined as we still have a lot of Thanos and Infinity Gem fallout to deal with before we get to the Civil War. However, this Civil War, could just pit Captain America against Iron Man. It could also split the current Avengers roster and set up for a brand new team of Avengers consisting of Ant-Man, Doctor Strange, and others. Rumors of the Russo Brothers directing Avengers 3 and 4 are also floating around the internet as well.

So how does this news make you feel about the future of the MCU? Excited to see the Civil War play out on the big screen?
