GoT Future News!

The Future of 'Game of Thrones' on HBO!

By: Dave Clark

With the events of season six of Game of Thrones still settling in the minds of all the fans out there, news is coming out about future seasons of the much beloved (and often aggravating) HBO series. According to an EW article about the TCA presentation for HBO, programming president Michael Lombardo said the following:

Seven-seasons-and-out has never been the [internal] conversation. The question is: How much beyond seven are we going to do? Obviously we’re shooting six now, hopefully discussing seven. [Showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss are] feel like there’s two more years after six. I would always love for them to change their minds, but that’s what we’re looking at right now.

This is by no means a confirmation of another season, as the series is currently signed through the seventh season, but its a really good sign. Lombardo would continue to tease the fans with talk of a possible prequel series as well.

I would be open to anything that Dan and David wanted to do—about Game of Thrones, or any subject matter. It really would depend fully on what they wanted to do. I think you’re right, there’s enormous storytelling to be mined in a prequel, if George and Dan and David decide they want to tackle that. At this point, all the focus is on the next few years of the show. We haven’t had any conversations about that at this point.

Lombardo would continue to address the events of season five, mainly the death of a fan favorite character. The big MAJOR death at the closing moments of the season five finale, is what I'm talking about, and I won't say more as to avoid spoilers.

Dead is dead is dead. He be dead. Um, yes. Everything I’ve seen, heard and read, [Spoilery name redacted] is indeed dead.

So there ya go. Good news, bad news, whatever, it's Game of Thrones. We know what to expect, and that's to expect death, mourning, and sadness. But also to expect some awesome drama and adventure!
