Jeff Goldblum's back in the Jurassic World!

By: Shannon Bee

Today the internet collectively lost it’s shit when it was announced that Jeff Goldblum has signed on to reprise his role of Ian Malcolm for Jurassic World 2.

Goldblum had a major role in both the original 1993 Jurassic Park and it’s 1997 sequel The Lost World: Jurassic Park. He played Dr. Malcolm, a mathematician and occasional jackass brought to the park by their insurance as a consultant. Throughout the course of the film, his obsession with “chaos theory” comes to light through several predictions about the dinosaurs.

In the first film he is seriously injured, declared dead, but SOMEHOW manages to survive. When he comes back in the sequel, he explains that the declaration of death was merely premature. In The Lost World he has a lot more knowledge of dinosaurs, and spends the majority of the film contending with a second expedition on Isla Nublar's sister island, Isla Sorna intent on harvesting dinosaurs for another park.

Other than this new information about Goldblum’s involvement, Jurassic World 2 is still largely a mystery. The only real clue we’ve had regarding any plot is the picture of the girl staring at some bones. Some fans are guessing that this collection may actually be Dr. Malcolm’s.

What do you think his role will be in the new film?

Jurassic World 2 is set to hit theaters on June 22, 2018 and stars Bryce Dallas Howard, Chris Pratt, Toby Jones, Daniella Pineda, Justice Smith, and Rafe Spall.
