Typically known for following the superhero exploits of Superman, James 'Jimmy' Olsen, has just been cast to appear in CBS' upcoming series Supergirl starring Melissa Benoist as Kara Zor-El aka Supergirl. Mehcad Brooks (True Blood, Necessary Roughness, Desperate Housewives) has signed on to portray the sometimes bumbling yet ever lovable photojournalist. According to Variety the character will be a love interest for Kara and is described as follows:
This casting will undoubtedly spark fanboy rage all across the internets because of the racial change of the character. We recently saw Perry White portrayed by Laurence Fishburne in Man of Steel. We've also seen Wally West's memorable character given a complete make over in DC's New 52 Universe as well (as we spoke about in this article.) So what say you all? Are you ok with this casting news? Does it make you upset that the character you knew and loved has been changed? Are you excited for this upcoming series even though it has been stated by the studio that it will not share a universe with Arrow and The Flash? As always, leave your thoughts and opinions in the comments below!
Supergirl is produced by Berlanti Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television. Greg Berlanti (EP of The Flash and Arrow) and Ali Adler (Glee and Chuck) along with Sarah Schecter (The Flash and The Mysteries of Laura) will serve as executive producers with Berlanti and Adler writing as well.
