Since CBS announced they were going into the Superhero TV Show business and chose Supergirl as its hero of choice, we had been waiting to see who would be cast as Kara Zor-El they estranged cousin of Superman. Today it was announced that Melissa Benoist (Glee, Whiplash)!
Supergirl is based on characters from DC Comics and focuses on Kara Zor-El. She escaped the devastation of her home planet Krypton by being sent to Earth by her parents, much like Superman. She has been hiding her abilities up to the point of the series start, but begins to take on the role of hero set before her, like her older cousin...Superman.

Supergirl is produced by Berlanti Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television. Greg Berlanti (EP of The Flash and Arrow) and Ali Adler (Glee and Chuck) along with Sarah Schecter (The Flash and The Mysteries of Laura) will serve as executive producers with Berlanti and Adler writing as well.
