CON LIFE

SDCC 2017 / Day 3 Wrap-Up

Another Comic-Con day and more Comic-Con news! And boy what a day. There are a fair amount of trailers to post so I'll try not to blather on too much.

Thoughts On Wonder Woman And The Impact It Had On Me

No, this is not a review. I don’t know what it is, honestly. I just can’t get the movie out of my head and I need to write about it. I have been apprehensive about Wonder Woman for many reasons. My disappointment in the previous films just...as films. The lack of consideration put into the characters of Superman and Batman (the flagship DC heroes). Not to mention the bleak world these characters have inhabited. The films have been placed in the wrong hands. And I mean hands plural because there are so many of them trying to shape these films and all with different ideas/agendas that clash far too often. So I feel justified in admitting my trepidation.

Titans & Young Justice: Outsiders Will Debut In 2018!

The level of “squee” that came out of my mouth when I heard about a live action Teen Titans was probably over 100 on the decibel scale (See: Chainsaws and fireworks).

Joss Whedon To Direct Batgirl Film!

DC fans have been upset by the recent releases from the DC Extended Universe of films. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad have left an unending foul taste in their mouths, and they're less than optimistic that the upcoming Wonder Woman film will redeem the shared universe. However, today we get a glimmer of hope within this grey and gloomy universe Zack Snyder has created. Joss Whedon, a Geek God for many, has signed a deal to write, produce and direct a live action Batgirl standalone film.

Trailer For 'Batman: The Killing Joke' Is Here!

It was announced at SDCC that we'd be getting an animated adaption of the Alan Moore and Brian Bolland graphic novel, The Killing Joke. Recently we found out that the film would be rated "R", making it the first DC Universe Original property with such a rating. Now we get our first trailer! Check it out below:

Judging A Book By It's Cover

We live in a world where we must be very careful of what we say and who we say it towards. We have to be ever careful of offending every single person who may read our work, see our images, or watch our films. We must be sensitive to everything and everyone. So I’m not surprised to hear that the cover of a comic book has struck a nerve with so many people. The upcoming variant cover to Batgirl issue forty-one shows an image many Batfans will recognize. It’s a callback to the extremely seminal and important book The Killing Joke. It’s in this book that The Joker shoots and paralyzes Barbara Gordon in front of her father, Commission James Gordon. For a very long time after this incident Barbara was confined to a wheelchair and operated as a hero under the name Oracle.

New DC Books/Creative

DC Launching New Books With New Creative Teams

Beginning June 3rd DC Comics is going to do away with the New 52 moniker and start a few new books. There will be a vast number of ongoing books that will remain, but we're going to get some interesting new titles as well.

Katana Recast

'Arrow' Recasts Katana

It was announced a few weeks ago that Devon Aoki would be joining the cast of Arrow for Season 3 as a recurring character. It seems that due to scheduling conflicts, she'll have to leave the show. But fear not, Katana-fans, she's already been recast by someone familiar to the comic book universe. Rila Fukushima (The Wolverine) will be replacing Aoki as Tatsu Yamashiro aka Katana. While we have no confirmation yet, I think its safe to assume we'll be seeing Tatsu in Oliver's flashbacks, but I'm hoping we also get to see her in the present time as well...perhaps fighting alongside Canary, and a fiery red-head named Barbara?
