Anti-Review: Catwoman

Pouncing straight off the pages of DC is comic book history’s most popular and sexy burglar. Catwoman revolutionized the game by playing both a foil and a love interest to DC’s most overrated character, Batman.

My First Batman: Saying Goodbye to Adam West

I have loved Batman my whole life. There are pictures of me as a small child dressed in Batman PJs, I played with tons of Batman toys. As an adult, I have a bat-symbol on my wedding ring and frequently wear Batman t-shirts. My love of the character is a defining characteristic, something anyone who knows me will list in a "top ten facts about Matt" list. And all that started with Adam West.

Injustice 2 Is Justice 2 The Franchise...Get It?

Injustice 2 is out and I have played it extensively. Before I get into what I think of the game let me admit to something...I am not good at fighting games. At least, not these traditional fighting games. So I’m also approaching this game from the standpoint of someone who wants to learn and get better. That being said, let’s get into it!

Justice League: Come Together...But Not Right Now

Don’t hate me...but I disliked this trailer. Look, I am known for being a curmudgeon when it comes to the DCEU. I didn’t choose to not like these films or this universe. I just don’t. It doesn’t interest me, it doesn’t speak to me, it doesn’t leave me wanting more. This universe just leaves me wanting.

The Lady-Hero is Here To Stay

When it was announced that Star Wars: The Force Awakens would feature a predominant female lead, there was a huge outcry of upset fans claiming this was merely pandering to the feminazi’s of the world. What followed was unprecedented success for the character of Rey, and a slew of new films featuring female superheroes, role models, scientists, and even fish. Similar hatred was spewed when the Ghostbusters reboot and Rogue One were announced, but the people have spoken. The top 2 grossing films of 2016 (Finding DoryRogue One)* were centered on stories of girls; their struggles, their coming of age, and their realization of the power of their voices. Regardless of any opinion to the contrary, the female hero is here to stay, and let me just say, it’s about damn time.

Growing Up On Earth 2

I’m a white American male. About as typical as they come. As a white American male, I haven’t had to traverse the inherit hurdles that a lot of my culturally diverse peers have. Also, the world of American entertainment seemingly caters to my needs. Growing up I didn’t have to search high and low for a hero who looked like me. However, when I think back I don’t remember seeing my favorite heroes in this light. I didn’t see Batman as a white male hero. I saw him as the super detective protector of the innocent. He fought crime so that no other child would end up watching their parents murdered in front of their eyes. He punched faces in the name of honor and justice. I saw him that way and no way else because I didn’t have to try to see him in another way. As a boy, the television, the movie screen, the video games, and the comic books made the protagonists in my image. I didn’t know any other way, until I grew up.

Ben Affleck Teases Justice League Villain

Batman himself tweeted out a short little video on what appears to be the set of the upcoming DC/WB film Justice League. In this brief clip we see a hanger and what looks to be they Flying Fox in the background (speculation of course) that was reported by set visitors a few months ago indicating that it is indeed (possibly) the JL set. Oh did I forget to mention that front and center of the clip is DEATHSTROKE! Check it out!

Review: Suicide Squad

“The Worst Heroes Get the Best Reviews: Suicide Squad”

Sometimes studios have the tendency to burn a franchise to the ground. At least for me, the DCEU has all but sizzled out of redeemable qualities. I have been burned-out by the darkest films to ever see red and blue tights, and burned by a director who let his vision sacrifice the meaning behind the characters I love. Because of this tone, the next installment of the DCEU has worried me for a while. Would it be too over the top? Would it have too much responsibility on it to ameliorate the franchise and correct the mistakes of it’s predecessors? Would it suffer from trying way too hard to be Guardians or Deadpool-esque? Sitting in the theatre, finally seeing Suicide Squad, it is relieving to be able to say that it’s becoming a bit easier to breath in the DC universe.

What the Return of Wally West Means to Me

I have no idea at what point in my life I was introduced to The Flash. I don’t how old I was, if it was from a comic, a show, a conversation or even which Flash I knew about first. Best guess, it was a passing glance of the ‘90s TV show on CBS starring John Wesley Shipp. And whatever it was, however I found out about him, the character consumed me. Suddenly I ate, slept, breathed and farted The Flash and super speed. I would argue to death that there’s no way a lame-o hero like Superman could beat The Flash in a race…The Flash’s whole power set is speed! I don’t think I picked up a comic until I was in my late teens but when I did, I started with The Flash. And the only Flash I had ever known was Wally West.
