Review: Alien: Covenant

Let me preface this review by saying“I liked this movie!” It has plot holes big enough to drive a truck through, but it also has all of the Alien franchise classics

Review: Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales

Six years ago we endured the fourth installment of the acclaimed Disney franchise, and most viewers felt like it was a black spot on the series’ record. Honestly, I enjoyed At World’s End even with its latent inconsistencies and renewed focus on Johnny Depp’s outlandish performance. I am a huge fan, not only of the Pirates franchise, but of the original Disneyland ride as well as general pirate lore and imagery, so this may have allowed the film to get away with more indiscretions in my eyes than most others. However, I understood the outcry and the negative response the film received even if I didn’t join in on the hangings. But, now with Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, I’m disinclined to acquiesce requests for the franchise’s demise. Fair Warning: There be spoilers ahead. You may not survive to pass this way again and these be the last friendly words you hear…

Thoughts On Wonder Woman And The Impact It Had On Me

No, this is not a review. I don’t know what it is, honestly. I just can’t get the movie out of my head and I need to write about it. I have been apprehensive about Wonder Woman for many reasons. My disappointment in the previous films just...as films. The lack of consideration put into the characters of Superman and Batman (the flagship DC heroes). Not to mention the bleak world these characters have inhabited. The films have been placed in the wrong hands. And I mean hands plural because there are so many of them trying to shape these films and all with different ideas/agendas that clash far too often. So I feel justified in admitting my trepidation.

Injustice 2 Is Justice 2 The Franchise...Get It?

Injustice 2 is out and I have played it extensively. Before I get into what I think of the game let me admit to something...I am not good at fighting games. At least, not these traditional fighting games. So I’m also approaching this game from the standpoint of someone who wants to learn and get better. That being said, let’s get into it!

Guillermo del Toro Retrospective

When asked to write an article about a director and how their work has progressed through the years, it was predictable that I would go with Guillermo Del Toro. If you follow Atomic Geekdom, it’s hard not to find me freaking out over something he has done. For years, he has fascinated and captivated my love for film to the utmost.

A Second Look at All in the Family

In such a tumultuous time when the world seems so polarized with current politics and social issues, it may be time to re-watch Norman Lear’s ground breaking sitcom from the 1970’s “All in the Family”. While having a couple drinks at one of my favorite haunts tonight, we grabbed a box of Trivial Pursuit “Baby Boomers Edition” and started asking each other questions. When a question about All in the Family came up  it got me thinking about our current world where we deal with issues like Brexit, a Donald Trump Presidency, abortion, the destruction of Native lands, Black Lives Matter, immigration, and refugees in a new digital age. It seems new and scary yet the same old broken record in a way.

Post-Series Depression, otherwise known as PSD, affects millions of people each year. With the creation of countless streaming platforms, this form of depression has spread across the globe faster than any virus ever has in all of human history. Symptoms of PSD could be, but are not limited to; a state of depression or sadness, a feeling of loss and emptiness, the inability to start another show, and many more similar feelings.

WhedonCon 2017 is Here!

Frequent visitors to the site or the podcast know that most of us here are HUGE Joss Whedon fans. Personally, I've been on the Whedon Fan Train since Buffy the Vampire's pilot episode. Something about the way he molds and develops stories and characters just captivates me. He has this way that few writers do, about making you love a character so much and then ripping your heart out when he kills them brutally. It's great! This year in we're fortunate enough to be able to cover WhedonCon!

Secret Empire United We Stand Trailer

It's been building for some time now. Amidst the controversy that was the reveal of Steve Rogers (Captain America) being an agent of Hydra, the story began. Secret Empire is a story told across several Marvel titles but culminating in this new series. Here's a teaser trailer for the series along with some comments from writer Nick Spencer:

Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 Review

I just got out of seeing "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" and I have things to tell you. I overall enjoyed the film, but I did have some small issues. Nothing that really ruined the film, but just felt off or out of place.

The First Trailer For "The Dark Tower" Disappoints This "Dark Tower" Fan.

I have loved Stephen King's epic "Dark Tower" series for many years. It's an incredible story that spans seven books (eight, if you count the later addition "The Wind Through the Keyhole" which takes place between books 4 and 5) and 1.3 million words. So when I heard that the series was set to be adapted to film, I was skeptical, but remained open-minded thinking that, if the Harry Potter film series could do justice to those books, a series of Dark Tower films might be able to do the same. I would have preferred a "Game of Thrones" type TV show, but I could live with movies.

Revival Teaser and Announcement!

While attending C2E2 this past weekend I was fortunate to run into so many great creative minds. One such mind was Tim Seeley. He created the book Hack/Slash, and more recently he's been writing for DC Comics with the Nightwing series. He also co-created a book with Battlepug creator Mike Norton titled Revival. He was doing a lot of artwork while at the con so he didn't have much time to talk to us in an interview (however, stay tuned to future episodes of the podcast). But he passed along a card that gave the details of an exclusive surprise Post-Mortem Panel on Sunday in which he debuted the following footage:

The level of “squee” that came out of my mouth when I heard about a live action Teen Titans was probably over 100 on the decibel scale (See: Chainsaws and fireworks).
